On 31 March 2026, the transaction was successfully completed, through which Flogiston LTD – one of Hungary’s leading gas meter manufacturing and verification companies – became the property of Metrinox Zrt., leaving its previous ownership structure. Flogiston’s professional independence, organizational structure, and customer relationships remain unchanged.
Flogiston LTD in brief
Since 1990, Flogiston Kft. has been one of Hungary’s leading companies in the manufacturing, repair, and verification of gas meters. Its activities include the production of residential and industrial diaphragm gas meters, the refurbishment and servicing of gas meters and volume flow correctors, as well as – in its eight laboratories certified by the Budapest Metropolitan Government Office – the calibration and re‑verification of metering devices in accordance with MID and BFKH requirements, within a measurement range from 16 l/h to 6,500 m³/h, unique in Hungary. Over more than three decades, the company has manufactured more than 1.5 million gas meters, with an annual production capacity exceeding 100,000 units.
Metrinox Zrt. in brief
Founded in 2024, Metrinox Zrt., a company with 100% Hungarian ownership, aims to establish a domestic manufacturing and development base covering the entire value chain of modern natural gas and electricity meters – from manufacturing and verification to innovation. In February 2026, the company inaugurated its new production and development facility in Szerencs, which focuses not only on traditional diaphragm gas meters but also on digital and smart metering solutions. Metrinox’s strategic goal is to establish a Hungarian metering industry competence center that can support both domestic and regional energy markets in the long term.
Combined capacities, unique market presence
The integration of Flogiston represents a significant increase in capacity and professional depth for Metrinox. The modern production and development background of the Szerencs plant is complemented by Flogiston’s more than three decades of manufacturing experience, its eight accredited verification laboratories, and its unique measurement range in Hungary. As a result of the integration, a professional center is created that can fully cover manufacturing, verification, service, and innovation within a single organizational framework – from traditional diaphragm meters to digital smart metering solutions. As a result, Metrinox and Flogiston together become a key player in the Hungarian gas meter market, competitive at an international level.
